Granovetter's weak tie theory
WebSubsequent research has generally supported Granovetter’s theory (Granovetter 1982), but two issues have been neglected in the research stream.First, there is considerable ambiguity as to what constitutes a strong tie and what constitutes a weak tie. WebGranovetter’s first major contribution is one of the most cited social science articles of all time, clocking in at over 56,000 on Google Scholar. As the title suggests, the article focuses on what Granovetter terms ‘weak ties’. If strong ties are those between groups of close friends, weak ties are those of acquaintances.
